The Society for the Maintenance of the Faith, in consultation with the Bishop of Chichester, is pleased to announce the appointment of the Revd John Blackburne, currently Assistant Curate of All Saints Notting Hill and St Michael’s Ladbroke Grove, to be Vicar of St Michael and All Angels, Brighton. A date for Fr Blackburne’s  institution and induction will follow in due course.

Biographical note:

Fr Blackburne was born in Chelsea in 1962 and was educated at St Mark’s Church of England School in Fulham. On leaving school he studied Law at Lancaster university from 1981-84 and spent a year working as Assistant Chaplain at St Christopher’s Hospice in Sydenham before spending a year working as the Assistant to the Archbishop’s Counsellor on Vatican Affairs in Rome.

In 1988 he joined the Department for Health and Social Security as a civil servant and for the last twenty-five years has worked on Tribunals for the Ministry of Justice.

Fr Blackburne was selected for training as a priest in 2015 and spent three years at St Augustine’s College of Theology in Southwark, being ordained by the Bishop of Fulham to the diaconate in September 2020 and to the priesthood in June 2021, serving his title as Assistant Curate at All Saints’ Notting Hill with St Michael’s Ladbroke Grove.
