The Society for the Maintenance of the Faith is pleased to announce the appointment of the Revd Robert James Wright SSC as the next Vicar of St Agnes, Kennington Park.
Fr Robert is currently Team Vicar in the North Cheltenham Team Ministry, with special responsibility for All Saints, Pittville (a parish under the oversight of the Bishop of Oswestry). This is one of only a few Team Ministries where a Society parish is grouped with others of a different theological conviction. In this post he has sought to live out the vision of mutual flourishing with his colleagues at a local level. Fr Robert relished the challenge of learning all about video and streaming during the lockdowns, and is proud of the fact that the churches in his team reopened as soon as possible in 2020, and stayed open during the third lockdown when many closed their doors.
Prior his present appointment, which commenced in 2018, Fr. Robert served as parish priest of St Olave, Mitcham, and before that as a curate in North Devon. He grew up in the East End of London, and came to faith and baptism as a 12 year old boy, after losing his father to cancer. His calling to the priesthood came to him not long afterwards, and he went on to read Theology at Durham and London Universities, and trained for the Ministry at St. Stephen’s House, Oxford. Fr Robert is married to Lindy, a Mental Health Nurse, and also shares his life with Wurzel, a white cat, Mia, a black cat, and Ernie, a yellow Labrador, all of whom are looking forward to becoming Londoners. Having served as a curate, a priest-in-charge, and a team vicar, Fr Robert looks forward to being an incumbent, and is overjoyed to be returning to his native London, and engaging with the joys and challenges of ministry there.
Please hold Fr Robert and Lindy in your prayers as they prepare to move after Easter, ahead of Fr Robert’s institution and induction on 25 April at 7.30 pm. Pray also for the people of St Agnes, and that a replacement for Fr Robert in Cheltenham may soon be found.
