The Society for the Maintenance of the Faith is pleased to announce the appointment of the Revd Robert Henry Everett as the next Vicar of St George’s, Bickley.

Fr Henry, as he is known, is currently Vicar of St Mary Magdalene and St Peter, Paddington in the Diocese of London, a post he has held since 2007, where he has overseen a £7 million project to conserve and develop St Mary Magdalene’s.

Fr Henry trained for ordination at St Stephen’s House, Oxford.  He has served in parishes in both an inner-city/suburban context as well as the rolling countryside of Cornwall, so has an extensive and varied priestly experience to bring to Bickley.  He is very much looking forward to moving into the parish some time in May, ready for his induction – the date of which is yet to be confirmed.

He is an accomplished author with several publications to his name, and has a keen interest in interfaith issues.  He is currently working on a new book looking at pilgrimage practices at Christian and Muslim shrines.  He has also been known to write a few hymns.

Fr Henry has been married since 2019 to Fiona, a retired ballet dancer who works as a Blue Badge tourist guide.  He was widowed in 2015 after 27 years of marriage to Helen, an educationalist.

Away from the demands of parish ministry, Fr Henry enjoys cycling (he cycled to Paris for Christian Aid in 2018) and reading, and is an enthusiast for the arts and a vocal spectator at various sports, and like many of us he is looking forward to opportunities for foreign travel as Covid restrictions ease.

Please do hold Fr Henry and Fiona in your prayers as they prepare to move and to begin Fr Henry’s new ministry amongst the church family at St George’s Church.
